Why
does Noni Juice work?
The
active constituents of Noni have not been definitively identified.
Some researchers point to the number of enzymes and alkaloids
in Noni. Others tout the polysaccharides that are believed to
strengthen the immune system. In the 1980s, researcher Ralph Heinecke
speculated on the existence of a substance he named xeronine,
ostensibly responsible for the plants healing effects. His
findings have been exploited heavily by some, but the findings
have yet to be confirmed.
Other
constituents that have been credited for Nonis unique healing
abilities include Scopoletin, which has been shown to lower blood
pressure, relax muscle spasms, reduce inflammation and kill bacteria
and fungi; and Damnacanthol, an arthraquinone compound that protects
against cellular degeneration.
It
may be that it is the unique synergy of all these constituents,
plus vitamins, minerals, trace elements, cofactors and amino acids
rather than a single constituent which gives Noni
its healing power. In any case it is believed that
Noni
works on a cellular level to enhance good health.
