Well, I'd like to add my strictly personal thoughts on wisdom
teeth, too. It is my belief also that if they are causing no problems
(pain from them breaking through the skin doesn't count..an acupunture
treatment for this is marvelous)then leave them alone.
I had my bottom two wisdom teeth removed as a teenager because
the dentist said they were "impacted" and insisted that
it must be done, otherwise in future there would be awful consequences
from my teeth being too crowded...and so of course my mom acquiesced.
It was one of the most painful, miserable experiences of my life
and, I later came to believe, totally unjustified. They weren't
causing me any pain, my teeth were straight, it was just something
that *had* to be done. (Perhaps the dentist's vacation fund was
running a little short?)
Twenty years later, on a routine trip to a dentist, he wants
to send me to someone to have braces put on, his opinion being
there was too much space between my lower teeth! Hmmmmmmmmmm....maybe
there's a connection ? No braces for me, by the way, thank you
very much!!
Now, when I was pregnant with my first child, my upper right
wisdom tooth (both had come through years earlier with no difficulty)was
causing me considerable discomfort, rubbing against the cheek lining..I
did have this one removed, and was ok with it...got to make this
decision on my own! I still have the upper left wisdom tooth,
and it has caused absolutely no trouble with bite alignment...or
in any other way.
DMW, if you have 3 months, then my advice would be to wait a
little bit...when the teeth are coming in, it causes the surrounding
tissues to swell and that might be contributing to the squeezing
sensation you're feeling. An acupuncture treatment can relieve
normal swelling and pain from a tooth erupting through the skin,
I urge you to give it a try...(my daughter had ALOT of pain from
this, but a single acupunture treatment--in her case--relieved
it almost instantly).
You say you *have a feeling* that your wisdom teeth are causing
the discomfort...they may be, listen to your inner voice. If you
determine that they really are causing you trouble, then it may
well be necessary to have the surgery done. But, I don't think
it will hurt to play the 'wait and see' game for a few weeks.
