hmmm. I had my wisdom teeth extracted on one side but not the
other when I was a teen. I had one tooth grow in crooked and cause
problems. The other tooth that matched it had to be taken out
a year later because it had nothing to bite against and kept growing
beyond what it should have and irritated the gum it was biting
against. I've had no problems with the remaining two on the oher
side.
I was told that if you have one wisdom tooth taken out you always
have to have it's pair taken out too because of this gum biting
problem. I don't know if this is true or if it is over medicalisation
by dentists (taking the second tooth before there are any problems).
I guess in general the important thing is if a wisdom tooth is
making other teeth shift their position. If not and they're not
causing pain them leave them. Whether you can tell if they are
affecting other teeth in the long term or if a dentist needs to
look at that I don't know.
