I go every year, like clockwork. Never much cared for them,
they were a bit uncomfortable but I went anyway. Everything was
always clear and happy until January of 2003 when my results came
back abnormal. Upon further testing it turned out I have quite
advanced cervical dysplasia. A hysterectomy was initially suggested
but I went a surgical procedure route with some VERY AGGRESSIVE
natural remedies for healing from my naturopath and some VERY
moving healing rituals with a group of friends. I went back every
three months for the past year and ALL my paps have been clear.
I will now go back in 6 months and if that is clear I am back
to every year. Granted my past is quite colorful as far as the
partners I have had and, obviously, we were not always practicing
safe sex but a pap saved my life. I truly think that had I put
off my pap another year things would not have been that clear
cut. I think one would have to take into consideration how well
they take care of themselves now and in their past; their previous
sexualy partners and whether they ALWAYS practiced safe sex because,
as we all know, we have basically had sex with everyone all of
our partners have had sex with; and their GUT feelings. I think
Persephone touched on the most important part too...find someone
you really trust with your health. Many Naturopaths will do paps
and are quite holitically minded and a midwife would be great
to work with too. Only you know what is best for you and your
family and the answer will come to you when the time is right.
