Yestarday,
I made my first ever infused oil: Plantain, Comfrey, and St. John's
Wort. My kids and I had a blast harvesting our herbs. They love
talking to the plants. Then we came home and I made my infused
oil. Now it is sitting in the kitchen brewing while I look longingly
at it anticipating the day it will be done so that I can make
my healing salve.
While
other people find joy in buying new cars and clothes, I get the
biggest pleasure out of making my own herbal infusions, and medicines.
The only part I don't like is waiting. Part of me loves waiting
because I know to create a truly powerful and nourishing infusion,
the plants and oil need to sit, blend and interact. I honor this
yet my western, fast paced, gotta have it now side wants the finished
product now.
The
only thing I can imagine that would take the edge off waiting
is to always be creating something new so that every day, week,
or month, a new and wonderful creation is completed and ready
to use. It'd be liking getting a new present every day, week,
or month of the year. What are your thoughts on the subject.
Today
we are harvesting our beloved friend the dandelion for dandelion
vinegar which once again will require me to wait for the finished
product...yet I anticipate the sweet nurturing nectar this will
provide our family. Plus, I have a long list of tinctures, salves,
oils, and other healing products that I am making....eventually.
Fom me there is always something I wish to create for myself and
my family and that gives me a sense of drive. When it comes to
herbs, I always have future goals to reach...and look forward
to learning more and more each day.
